"Saxion-intake", "StudiePitch" en "Qualtrics"
Saxion University of Applied Sciences offers a Meet&Greet or an Intake depending on the program. With the Meet&Greet there is a questionnaire and this is offered through the program Qualtrics. However, the Intake is subject to an assessment. The assessment is offered in this program "Saxion Intake" (the software name is StudiePitch). Saxion has made agreements with both programs to safeguard the privacy of the participants.
Questionnaire vs Assessment
Meet&Greet offers a questionnaire. It is intended as an aid to get as much as possible out of a Meet&Greet meeting. Filling it out is therefore voluntary and mainly meant for yourself.
For the Intake, however, an assessment applies. The assessment is mandatory and conditional in order to be allowed to have an intake interview. Below you will find more information about this assessment.
Why am I invited for an assessment?
As Saxion we give you the opportunity to make your intake assessment. The results of the intake assessment provide information about your opportunities and challenges for this specific programme and are stored in Saxion-Intake. The results will be discussed with you during the intake interview. Various studies have shown that it is not only the intellectual abilities that are important to successfully complete a study. Precisely these abilities in combination with factors such as personality, motivation and social circumstances are the key to success.
The assessment is also used as an acquaintance between student and education. Who am I, what can I do with regard to the capacities considered relevant by the program? Do I fit in with the program and does the program suit me? It gives you and the program insight into your knowledge and skills, but also maps out your motivation and personal characteristics. In addition, topics such as your private circumstances, possible functional limitations or possibilities and your image of the program and future professions are also discussed.

For each programme, the assessment consists of various sections and themes. In the assessment, you may discuss some of the following themes:
How long will the assessment take?
Because the assessment is specifically created for each programme, the time you will spend on the assessment will not only differ per person but also per programme. Please take into account that you will probably spend about 45 minutes on the assessment. For this period of time, please find a place where you can sit quietly with as little distraction as possible.
What should I pay attention to when making the assessment?
Only when you click on button [Continue] your answer will be saved and counted.
When you don't give an answer on time for questions with a time limit or when you give an answer but don't click on btton [Continue] the question will be counted wrong.
Also for questions without a time limit click on the [Continue] button to save your answers.
Why should I answer questions that seem unrelated to the degree programme?
The questions of the theme Personality have low face validity. You may wonder what the point is of these questions. These questions are asked to avoid socially desirable answers. However, research has shown that these questions are indeed reliable and valid, and, can reasonably predict study success. The items in Skills and also in programme-specific questions are often recognised as relevant, but appear to say less about your chances for educational success.
What does a scale show?
After concluding the assessment, you will see the results page. On this page, you will see how you scored for each section. A scale shows the percentage per section of how well you performed (such as skills), or what percentage you scored on measured personality aspects (such as accuracy). The latter indicates how strong a certain personality aspect is present. The results provide a meaningful tool for discussion with the programme; Your intake advice will be based on a combination of the results of the assessment and the interview.
I am not able to open the assessment. What should I do?
Contact the programme for which you would like to conduct the assessment.
My computer crashed while conducting the assessment. What should I do?
The questions that were answered have been saved. You can log on again using another computer and continue where you left off. If this still does not work, please contact the programme for which you were conducting the assessment.
I have already conducted an intake assessment at Saxion. I am now going to do an intake for another programme. Must I conduct the assessment once again?
The assessment is set up separately for each programme. The sections ‘skills’ (‘language/reasoning’) and ‘personality’, however, are the same for many programmes. You will not have to answer the same questions twice. However, you will have questions that are different. You will always have to answer questions regarding the selection process and views of the programme and the profession.

Spelling
You must point out which words are spelled incorrectly in 18 sentences. This is to test spelling skills. This part calls upon the skills which have systematically been taught at school.
Arithmetic
For this part of the test you must answer 20 varied mathematical questions, each with 5 alternative answers. In addition to insight in mathematical connections, it also involves routine skills in working with numbers and control over various mathematical operations. This part measures, among other things, the ability to solve sums and the interpretation of (learning to interpret) tables and graphs.
Logical sequences
This part consists of 12 cases in which the student must indicate which of the four conclusions is the logical result of the case in question. This is to test the ability to use logic and reasoning and to draw logical conclusions.
Logical reasoning This part consists of 8 tasks in which you must find the connection between words, herein the vocabulary is not tested but the ability to link the connections between words. It is about abstract reasoning with ideas. In practical terms this means being able to understand what is generally being said, to be able to detect the main issues and to have a problem-solving approach.
Research
Saxion is continuously conducting research in order to improve the tool as well as its service but also to monitor the relevance of them (participation and results) in combination with the educational success. The follow-up research is conducted with anonymised data. Therefore, they cannot be traced back to the participant.
